Introduced in 1976, BMWs new 6-series coupe replaced the successful series of 3.0 CSL coupes which are among the best looking BMWs ever made. Essentially a coupe version of the 1977 model 7 series, the 6 series stayed in production up until it was replaced by the larger and considerably more expensive 8 series coupe in 1990.
The 3.5 litre straight six 635 CSi was introduced in 1979 and replaced the smaller engined 633 CS. Until the arrival of the M635 CSi in 1984, the 635 CSi was the fastest 6 series available. The car has a rear wheel drive chassis with either a 5 speed manual or an automatic transmission. The 8 series which replaced this car was never as popular and the 8 series line has since been discontinued by BMW. A brand new 6 series based on the 5 series saloon has just been introduced (at the end of 2003) by BMW and it like the original is a good looking performance coupe.
The original 6 series is now rapidly acquiring classic status which is reflected in the rising prices being asked for good quality examples of this fine car.
AUTOart make this model of the 635 CSi, and as part of their top end Millennium series of models, it is very good indeed. The engine bay in particular is very nice as are the brakes and the overall quality of the model is very high. Well worth getting if you like older BMWs.
