BMW 635 CSi Touring Car "Jagermeister" by AUTOart

I love racing cars painted in Jagermeister colours and this BMW 635 CSi is no exception. On the box AUTOart describes this car as having raced in the 1984 ETCC (European Touring Car Championship), driven by Hans Stuck. But in the '84 ETCC Stuck drove a 635CSi for the works Schnitzer team whose cars were prepared in the "Original Teile" (which translates as "Original Parts") sponsorship scheme.

I did see a post on one of the model car forums (possibly on the message board on scale18.com) stating that this particular version was driven by Hans Stuck in a few rounds of the 1984 Deutsche Production Meistershaft "DPM" series (the national German touring car series). There was another Jagermeister 635 CSi driven by Walter Brun in the DPM series on a more regular basis in 1984. Brun also ran his own racing team, known as Team Brun. In addition to preparing BMW 635 CSi's for touring car racing, Team Brun also entered a Porsche 956 in Jagermeister colours in the 1984 World Sportscar Championship. Hans Stuck and Stefan Bellof drove one to victory in that years 1000km at Imola in Italy. Hence I think that for a few of the rounds of the DPM, in addition to his duties in Sportscar racing for Team Brun, Stuck also drove a number of rounds of the DPM in a Team Brun BMW 635 CSi.

The 635CSi touring cars were based on BMWs large luxury coupe of the early 1980s. They had a motorsport tuned 3.5 litre straight six engine producing around 360bhp in race trim driving the rear wheels through a 5 speed gearbox. Most of the luxury interior of the road cars was striped out and a hefty roll cage was welded in (all in the name of lightness and safety, plus extra stiffness respectively). The racing 635s were very competitive and scored several race and championship wins in the 1980s (including such races as the 24hrs of Spa in Belgium) against stiff competition from such cars as the TWR prepared Jaguar XJ-S's, Rover Vitesses, and the Volvo 240 Turbos. In the 1984 ETCC they were generally outclassed by the TWR-Jaguar XJ-S's (which eventually won the '84 ETCC) but the DPM championship was won by Volker Strycek in a 635 CSi.

This model is I feel one of AUTOarts best to date (March 2007). I love the Jagermeister colours and paintwork, and the wheels and brakes are first rate. The engine could have been a little more detailed, but otherwise it is a hard model to fault.
