BMW R1200C by Maisto

BMW R1200C by Maisto

This is one of the few motorcycles in my collection. It is a model of the 1997 BMW R1200C which was a new departure for BMW as it was their first "retro styled" model. It has the same look as a classic Harley Davidson or a Yamaha Virago, combined with the familiar flat air cooled twin BMW engine. Basically it looks great!

Maisto make this model of the R1200C and it is not marketed as a "Bond" edition. It is however identical to the R1200C used by Pierce Brosnan and Michelle Yeoh (Bond and a Chinese secret agent respectively) to escape from badguy Elliot Carvers Saigon headquarters, in the 1997 movie "Tomorrow Never Dies". During a terrific chase scene, Bond managed to evade two pursuing Range Rovers and finally a helicopter, and of course ends up wrecking the motorcycle in the process! Bond also drove a heavily armed and armoured 750iL BMW in the same movie, but so far it hasn't been made in 1:18th.

Maisto's motorcycles are very cheap indeed, usually costing less than a quarter of the price of their 1:18th cars. Consequently they are not the most exacting of scale models, but it's not too bad either. The suspension detail and brakes look a bit crude, and the lights are just painted on. The off white paint is nice and overall it is a good looking model. Hence it gets a rating of 6/10.
