Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS 1967 by Lane

The Camaro was Chevrolet's answer to the runaway success of the Ford Mustang in the 2 door sports coupe market in the US. These small (by US standards!) cars often packed a large V8 punch which resulted in great performance. Not all were high performance though, cheaper models had lower powered sixes or even fours! Pontiac made the sister car to the Camaro, the Firebird. Neither were runaway successes in their first incarnations (the 1967-1969 body style of this model) but enjoyed huge success with the new 1970 onwards body style. In hindsight though, the original Camaro was possibly the best looking of the lot.

Often, performance Chevrolet's carried an "SS" badge as this Camaro does. It has a large V8 with a four speed floor change manual gearbox, as well as a white stripe around the nose with "SS" logo's. There is also a small "ducktail" spoiler on the rear end to complete the performance look.

Lane Collectibles make this model, and it is one of their first releases as model makers in their own right. It looks good although I feel the wheels look a tiny bit too small for the body on this model. Otherwise it is a quality model, but not as good as the latest releases (as of Jan 2006) from AUTOart, Kyosho, GMP and indeed Lane themselves.
