1955 "Elvis" Cadillac by MRC

1955 Elvis "Pink Cadillac" by MRC

I bought this model in the gift store at "Graceland" in Memphis, Tennessee, in June 1997. Graceland was the former home of Rock and Roll legend Elvis Presley, and is now a museum dedicated to his life. The car is a 1955 Cadillac which Elvis bought secondhand and had resprayed in pink, his mothers favourite colour. He then gave the car to her, but she never drove it as she did not know how to drive! In it's day, it would have been one of the most expensive cars available in the USA. Elvis bought many Cadillac's in his lifetime, and would often buy several at a time, and give many of them away on a whim. His staff would often receive a Cadillac as a gift from him, but would then sell it on as they could not afford the running costs on the low wages the "King" paid!

This model is made by a company called MRC, and it was the only 1:18th scale car they made. It is accurate in scale and has good quality pink paint. Overall it looks good, but neither the hood or trunk open and only the front doors open, not the rears. It has no engine detail at all. The interior is not very detailed, but looks good. It came in a nice Elvis themed box, but on the flight home from New York to Dublin, I had taken in out of it's box and put it in my carry on luggage, and unfortunately the radio aerial and both spotlights (where the door mirrors were) broke off. I still have the broken off parts, but I haven't yet gotten around to reattaching them! One of these days!

Overall it gets 4/10 marks.
