Ford XC Falcon Cobra Coupe by AUTOart (for Biante Classics)

This Ford is one of the first Australian models I added to the collection. It is a 1978 XC Falcon Cobra Coupe from Ford of Australia, and is the down under equivalent of an American Muscle Car. It has a powerful 5.8 litre V8 engine giving it serious power, and has great looking "performance" add-ons including a ducktail rear spoiler, a deep "chin" spoiler under the front bumper, five spoke alloys, super white paint with twin blue stripes, huge air scoops on the bonnet and sporty black and blue seats.

Race versions of the Falcon Coupe were very successful in Australian Touring Car racing, and it also formed the basis of the "V8 Interceptor" in the cult "Mad Max" movies with Mel Gibson. Apparently Biante are hoping to release a 1:18th version of the Mad Max car, but no date has been announced as of yet (Jan 2006). Several other versions of this car have been released by Biante (all are made by AUTOart for this Australian specialist company) including several racing versions, a number of which are in my collection and can be found on the "LeMans/Racing Cars" page of this site.

A good model this, but no longer cutting edge as the "dogleg" door hinges show. On later Falcon coupe releases AUTOart have updated the model with hinges that allow the doors to open in a more realistic fashion. Paint quality is good and the blue stripes are particularly well applied. Hard to find now as most Biante model releases tend to sell out quite quickly to collectors in Australia.
