1966 was the year that Ford managed to beat Ferrari at LeMans with their superb GT40 racing car. GT40s finished 1-2-3 at the French circuit that year, and this superb looking blue car was the second place finisher. Driven by Englishman Ken Miles and New Zealander Denny Hulme, this car was cruelly denied 1st place as Ford decided to stage a dead heat finish with the first three cars crossing the line together. The McLaren/Amon GT40 was on the same lap as this car but in 2nd place. Hence Miles had to slow down to let the 2nd place car to catch up for the dead heat across the line. Unfortunately the organisers of the race thought differently and declared the McLaren/Amon car the winner as it had started 20 meters further down the grid than this car, hence it had won the race by covering 20 meters more during the 24 hours.
Exoto initially released this beautiful blue GT40 as part of a three car set along with the '66 winning LeMans GT40 and the 3rd place GT40. Since then they have been gradually releasing all 3 of the 1-2-3 placed GT40s on their own, but at Exoto's ever increasing prices.
As a model it is first rate, with superb engine, interior and exterior detail.
