Ford Mustang Coupe (Pete Geoghegan 1966 Australian Touring Car Series Champion) by Classic Carlectables

Australian racing driver Ian "Pete" Geoghegan (who died aged 64 on the 15th of November 2003) decided the new Ford Mustang would be just the car he needed to win in the Australian Touring car series. He travelled to the US where he arranged the purchase of the white coupe Mustang seen here. He had the car fitted with some choice Shelby performance parts, and then shipped it to Australia.

The car immediately proved competitive and was the class of the field in the 1966 Australian Touring Car Championship, with Geoghegan taking that years Championship title. He went on to win four championships in a row using Ford Mustangs, (1966-69) to give himself a career total of five Australian Touring Car Championship wins (the first in 1964 being achieved in a Ford Cortina).

This Mustang is the first model by Classic Carlectables (CC) that I've added to my collection. CC are an Australian firm who specialise in models of Australian cars, including a range of Mustangs which raced in Australia. They also make a superb 1966 Mustang Coupe (a street version, not a racecar) which is also a very nice model indeed, and one which I've also added to my collection.

This model is quite similar to the excellent 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible in ERTLs Precision100 range, but this mold is unique to Classic Carlectables. It has some superb details including realistic scissor type bonnet hinges, extra brake cooling ducts under the front spoiler and a quality white paintjob. Highly recommended.
