This is Jaguar's competitor to the Mercedes Benz SL range, and replaced the XJS range in the mid 1990's which by then was very long in the tooth. It also comes in coupe form, but Maisto who make this model only make it as a convertible. The model represented here is the range topping XKR which has a 370bhp supercharged V8 (the same as found in the XJR 4 door saloon) and which as a result is a seriously fast car! Maisto also make the standard car, the unsupercharged XK8, which in my opinion does not look as good, as it's alloy wheels are not as nice as on this XKR model.
It is a budget priced model, so I didn't expect top quality. However, it looks good overall, but the engine bay is not very detailed, and the seats are not very well done. They are supposed to tip forward to allow access to the rear of the car, but they sag forward all the time, which does not look great. Solido, a model maker not known for highly detailed models (in my opinion) are about to release a coupe version of the XK8, but from photo's I've seen of it on the web, I don't think it will be as nice a model as this Maisto is. Overall I'm giving it an average mark of 5/10.
