To celebrate 4 successive World Championship wins by it's star driver Tommi Makinen (between 1996 and 1999), Mitsubishi decided to release a special edition of the Lancer Evo VI named after the star Finnish driver. Hence the "Tommi Makinen Edition"! Mechanically this car is little different to the superb Evo VI on which it is based, and the principle differences are the white Enneki alloys and a different front air dam which does not have the extra driving lights as found on the regular Evo VI. There is a black, silver and white stripe along the flanks ending on the bonnet as on the competition version, and the rear wing is painted white on it's aerodynamic surfaces.
Inside, there are black and red Recaro seats, with the Makinen logo on them, but otherwise it is the same as the regular Evo VI. The engine is a 2 litre turbocharged four, which puts out officially 280bhp, but which can easily be tuned to put out well in excess of that figure! It puts it's power down through a sophisticated 4 wheel drive system in order to give the best traction no matter what the surface conditions are like.
AUTOart did a fine job in recreating the Makinen edition Evo VI and it makes a fine addition to my rally car collection.
