Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI by AUTOart

The Lancer Evo VI was the sixth high performance Lancer to be produced by Mitsubishi in order to homologate the competition rally car version for Group A rallying. Between 2500 and 5000 road going versions of the proposed rally car had to be produced in order to allow the car to compete in Group A, hence Mitsubishi offered cars like this one for sale to the public. Finnish driver Tommi Makinen won the drivers championship for Mitsubishi four times in a row between 1996-1999 using the Lancer which was a measure of how competitive the car was. Power came from a highly tuned 2 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine driving the car through a sophisticated four wheel drive system. In standard road tune the Lancer puts out 280bhp, but the competition versions produce considerably more power. As a result the Evo VI is a serious performance car!

It looks a bit "hairy" for some tastes (me included!) with a forest of spoilers and air dams on a standard Lancer body. But it's provenance as a highly successful rally car can not be denied. The interior has a set of colour coded Recaro bucket seats and a Momo steering wheel. The turbocharged engine is nicely detailed, and all four doors, boot and bonnet open. AUTOart released this model back in 2000 and hence it is no longer "state of the art" by their standards. However it makes a great addition to any rally car collection.
