NSU introduced a new small car called the Prinz in 1961 with styling clearly influenced by the Chevrolet Corvair. Production of this body style lasted from 1961-1973 and many derivative models of the original Prinz were made, including this performance version, the TT. All Prinz type cars had a transverse rear mounted 4 cylinder engine driving the rear wheels. The TT was to the Prinz what the Cooper was to the Mini. With a tuned engine (producing 78bhp), two extra headlights and a sportier interior, the TT was a fast small car and looked the part.
An even higher performing version, the TT-S with 83bhp was also introduced (Revell also do a model of this version, which I also have) and was to the Prinz what the Cooper S was to the Mini. These tuned NSUs were successful in their class of Saloon car racing in the 1960s and still compete today in historic racing.
Revell make this model of the NSU TT and it is a fine model of an unusual car. It is not quite as good in terms of overall detail as a current (2003) AUTOart or Kyosho, but it has good engine and interior detail and the bodywork looks great. The front headlights are particularly realistic, which is something even models costing twice as much get wrong. It lacks an opening bonnet (so no detail of the luggage area) but otherwise is hard to fault. It gets a well earned 7/10 marks overall.
