Opel Rekord P1 (1958) by Minichamps/PMA

Opel have a long history of producing sensible family cars, but for 1958, they decided to radically style their newest Rekord. The Rekord P1 had many American styling influences (no surprise as Opel was and still is General Motors German subsidiary) such as the forward swept windscreen, heavily chromed front grill, and two tone paint. Mechanically the P1 was far less adventurous than it's up to the minute styling, with a 1.5 litre 50bhp four cylinder engine driving the rear wheels through a 3 speed manual gearbox. The Rekord had independent front suspension, but the rear suspension consisted of a live rear axle on leaf springs.

Nonetheless, it proved very popular, and took second place in the German sales charts behind the VW Beetle.

Minichamps make this model of the Opel Rekord P1. It has lovely interior detail, with an accurate representation of the Opel's US style dashboard. Both doors, the boot lid and the bonnet open. The small four cylinder engine is also nicely made. The paint quality, and the chrome highlights are also very good.

A nice alternative to endless amounts of exotic car models, and a very attractive model for collectors of classic cars.
