Luxury/Executive cars are generally designed with one goal in mind. That is to make the owner or occupant feel and look good. In a nutshell, they are status symbols, which tell the world that the owner has made it!
Often cars of this sort don't make great models as they are quite conservative in appearance, but there are exceptions such as the ostentatious Maybachs and the more radically styled current range of "Bangle" BMWs.
Large luxury coupes and convertibles like the XK8 Jaguar, and the Mercedes-Benz SL500 are fine machines, and are considered by some to be sports cars, but not by me! I think of them more as "performance cars". Additionally, high performance versions of various saloons/sedans are to large to be considered sports cars or often too common a sight to be thought of as exotic cars (in my opinion anyway!) hence they too fall into the "performance car" category.
